Yes, I provide 1-on-1 online tutoring.
In one word, NO. Online tutoring with an expert provider is nothing like whole class or small group pandemic online learning. Online tutoring is personable, collaborative, and interactive. Because the work that I do is tailored to each individual student, every child will get exactly what he or she needs.
Most students respond better to the virtual environment than parents expect. I find this is true even for very young students. Likewise, most parents of online students appreciate not having to drive and wait for their child while they are in a tutoring session. If we find that online is not a fit for your child for any reason (this has yet to happen), we can switch to in-person instruction. If we do not live in the same geographic area, I will refer you to another qualified in-person tutor (if available).
Yes, my online students show the same amount of progress as my in-person students.
Altitude Tutoring was born in Colorado, hence the name, but is now located in my home state of Florida. Altitude's office is located in Land O' Lakes, Florida and serves in-person students around the greater Tampa area. Altitude serves online students all over the world.
No, I do not offer tutoring in other subjects. As a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist and Orton-Gillingham Certified Teacher, my speciality is literacy (reading and writing).
While I am Orton-Gillingham Certified and that informs my instruction, as a Certified Dyslexia Interventionist I use other structured literacy resources and the synthesis of knowledge I have gained from extensive work with dyslexic and dysgraphic learners to design lessons that will achieve the best possible results. I match my instruction and materials to each student's individual needs. Every child is unique and will progress at his/her own pace, but structured literacy instruction is not considered a quick fix. The pace of instruction is dictated by the child’s understanding and application of concepts, not by a set timeframe.
Yes. In my experience, once weekly is not enough instruction and practice for struggling readers. At Altitude Tutoring, at least two sessions weekly are required to secure a tutoring program spot.
Yes, I screen for dyslexia using the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing (CTOPP-2) and Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills 8th Edition (DIBELS). I do not diagnose learning disorders.
Yes, Altitude Tutoring is an approved direct pay provider with the Step Up For Students scholarship program in Florida. Step Up For Students is a state-approved nonprofit scholarship funding organization that helps administer scholarships for Florida schoolchildren.
