Literacy Tutoring

Like our owner, all Altitude Tutoring literacy practitioners are highly qualified, certified in the EBLI speech-to-print approach, and have extensive experience with teaching neurodiverse students. We use the label "tutoring" because that is what most families are used to calling support outside of school, but what we do is different. We provide specialized literacy intervention, not repeated practice in isolated skills or homework support. Our goal is to teach your child to read and write proficiently while increasing his/her confidence.

At Altitude, our online literacy practitioners excel at teaching students of varied abilities. The expertise acquired from years of teaching reading, writing, and spelling to students who learn differently enables Altitude to produce effective, efficient results in a caring and supportive online environment. Every child is treated as an individual and instruction is adjusted to meet specific needs.

We understand that choosing someone to work with your child is an important decision and you have many options. We are here to answer any questions you have, so don't hesitate to contact us. We are honored to partner with families to help their children learn, persevere, and achieve. As your educational partner, Altitude is available for homeschool testing and to advise families on educational strategies. We are also here to answer questions and give suggestions related to your child’s academic needs. We take pride in delivering the highest quality of service to our students and their families.

What Our Clients Say

1/5

I was told my child must have in-person instruction, is this true?

Not necessarily. Many of our students with multiple diagnoses (including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia) were told they needed in-person instruction, but that was not actually the case. These students are thriving in our online environment.

My child did not do well with online during the pandemic. Will this be the same?

In one word, NO. Online literacy tutoring with an expert practitioner is nothing like whole class or small group pandemic online learning. Online tutoring is personable, collaborative, and interactive. Because the work that we do is tailored to each individual student and our tutors are highly experienced, every child will get exactly what he or she needs.

What if online is not a good fit for my child?

Students respond better to the virtual environment than parents may expect. We have found this is true even for very young students and students with unique abilities. Likewise, most parents of online students appreciate the convenience of not having to drive and wait for their child while they are in a tutoring session. Additionally, some students are more comfortable when they are in their home environment. Bottom line- we want your child to be in the best possible learning environment so if we feel that online is not a fit for your child for any reason, you will be referred to a qualified in-person tutor (if available).

Will my child show the same progress online?

Yes, Altitude's online students show the same amount of progress as in-person students.
